Frequently Asked Questions
- As we must ensure that each guest fits to this specific sailing trip, you will be asked to apply by filling out an online form 'join the next trip'
- Once we receive this form, we send to you an email reply of the next upcoming trip(s) with the sailing trip location, the dates, and the crew contract.
- You could then email us back to notify in which dates and location you have chosen to take your sailing vacation trip, and then in the next step we invite you to the respective WhatsApp Crew Group and set a suitable time for you and the rest of the crew members to introduce each other through a crew' group video call.
- After the video call you and the crew can decide if you wish to join. If all are fine, you send us back the signed crew contract. After that you will receive the non refundable invoice to be paid directly after receipt. If you are unsure please sign in for a travel insurance. We can advise you some for a good price.
- Try to use only hand baggage if you take the airplane. From personal
experience: it’s enough, you get all you need at the spot.
- There is no 220V power - except in some marinas. E.g. Hair Dryers won’t work, some laptops only with voltage transformers *. But you can recharge all USB devices.
- A coffee machine is not available, but you can brew any kind of coffee or espresso or use a mobile express capsule machine *.

What to pack for a sailing week?
First and most important thing is to pack all things in a duffel bag. Since it is essential to keep clear space on the boat, then when you unpack, you can fold the duffel bag and store it neatly in the compartment.
Generally it depends on the time and area. But in any case you can wash your clothes with special travel laundry detergent. *
Since we usually sail in warm areas, this should be sufficient - just need this:
- It is recommended to wear this on the flight to save space: Light windbreaker jacket, long sleeve shirt & pants (best are zip-offs). To be used as “dressed-up” look for going out or chilly nights. Or take another clothing for that if you cannot combine that.
- Under your clothes: your bathing suit - in warm zones you will wear them 24/7, so maybe a 2nd if you want to wash out the other.
- No socks, but Shoes: Functional, best would be waterproof barefoot shoes you can swim with and climb rocks and avoid sea orchids.
- In any case: No high heels on board, please (white) soles, never black: they leave black stains on the deck. Flip-flops are not suitable on the deck: they slip dangerously on the deck.
- Sunglasses and Head protection with mounting (e.g. neckstrap/ holder) *
- Sun Cream and After sun cream, shampoo, conditioner *
* = can be provided at the spot
Optional:
Sailing gloves and shoes
All ages are welcome on board from 18+! Mostly they are in the mid 20s to mid 50s.
In addition to the variable meal's menu, there are also great and delicious vegetarian meals offered for the crew on board- Pasta served with fresh cooked veggies' sauce topping, and also Indian White rice served with Veggies curry, and many more creative creations of special cuisines! Crew members are also welcome to prepare their special ideas of favorite meals!
Practically, all year around there are sailing trips at different locations: for instance, in Thailand and the Carribeans, sailing trips occur during October-April, and in the Mediterranean seas, sailing trips occur during the months of May-September. In December, there are amazing sailing trips along the Ballerian Islands- to Mallorca.
Well, it is best to secure a spot for the sailing trip in advance. It is also possible to secure a spot anytime if there are vacancies and the other crew members confirm. There are also other arrangements to do in advance such as flight ticket purchase and security.
Yes, the insurance cost for skipper, liability and a limited amount of damages to the boat are included.
- Dehydration and Sun Exposure: Spending time on the water can lead to dehydration and sunburn. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and protect yourself from the sun with appropriate clothing and hats.
- Seasickness: see separate question
- Collision: Colliding with other boats, obstacles, or land can lead to accidents. Maintain a lookout, follow navigation rules, and stay aware of your surroundings.
- Weather Conditions: Unpredictable weather changes, storms, or strong winds can pose risks. Check weather forecasts before heading out, and carry appropriate safety gear, such as rain gear, warm clothing, and flares.
- Man Overboard: Falling overboard is a serious risk. To cope, always wear a life jacket, stay within the boat's designated boundaries, and have a rescue plan in place.
- Mechanical Failures: Engine breakdowns or equipment malfunctions can leave you stranded. Regularly maintain your boat, carry essential tools and spare parts, and know basic troubleshooting.
- Navigational Hazards: Rocks, sandbars, and shallow waters can damage the boat. Use nautical charts, GPS, and depth sounders to navigate safely.
- Emergency Situations: Accidents, medical emergencies, or fires can happen. Have a well-stocked first aid kit, know emergency procedures, and carry communication devices such as radios or satellite phones.
- Maintain a stable position on the ship, preferably at the center where movements are less pronounced.
- Even better: Steer the ship in the helmet, occupy yourself and fix your gaze on the horizon or a steady point in the distance to help balance your senses. “Get your balance right” (Depeche Mode)
- Avoid reading or engaging in intense visual activities as they can exacerbate symptoms.
- Breathe in fresh air and avoid enclosed spaces.
- Avoid consuming heavy or greasy meals before the journey.
