Day 1:

Sailing Trip in the Greek Cyclades Islands💚💙🧡; June 2nd- June 9th: ‘What an amazing and intense Sailing trip this one was! An absolute escape to “Paradise” from the hectic daily routine life!

(Nikolai the Skipper and Frank at the airport- are very cheerful and excited to get on their flight to depart to Athens!
See you in Athens! 😘 Bon Voyage!!!)

On the first day, we all met at the Athens airport as each crew member arrived by flight from their origin country. We all took the bus from Athens airport to drive and arrive at Alimos marina where we boarded the yacht to begin our sailing journey along the Greek Cyclades Islands💚 Just a few tasks before the sailing trip began– we had to complete our groceries shopping list: and so Anky, Lars, and I took a taxi to the nearby supermarket to get the groceries list that we all prepared on the previous night. We stopped a taxi that passed by in the marina where we were at the moment, and to a wonderful surprise, the taxi driver was so pleasant and friendly that he even advised us on the best nearby supermarket and took us straight there!

We got all the products from the list and managed to complete the shopping sooner than we thought we would, and we were very pleased with that!- this was probably due to the neat supermarket we were shopping at, everything was found easily and Greeks are always helpful and warmly kind! We took a taxi from the supermarket with all the shopping groceries back to the marina to board the yacht!

Nikolai, the leader of the sailing trip made all the checkups of the yacht to ensure that all is operating in perfect order and that we are all good to finally get started sailing! We are all set! Ready to sail out from Alimos marina into the gorgeous blue sea💙! It was extremely hot that day at Alimos marina and when we sailed into the open sea it was such a relief as we had a refreshing wind and great cooling breeze of salty air! “We are sailing, we are are sailing, Home again, ‘Cross the Sea, we are sailing, Stormy waters, To be near you, To be Free!!”–Rod Stewart– (from left: Mattias on the wheel with Nikolai the Skipper guiding him, Inez in the Pink💖 jacket, Lars in blue shirt, Anky in white, and I am in Nike✔ running shoes😊)

(Frank’s selfie photo for today!! — great photo Frank!👏👏) It was an amazing day as we sailed for about 8 hours arriving to Sounion at the late afternoon hours just before a gorgeous pink and orange 💖🧡sunset. (Early evening at Sounion Bay!) We were all extremely exhausted that evening after such a busy morning of getting everything arranged before sailing, then boarding on the boat and sailing for 8 hours. This evening at Sounion bay was very relaxed and full of joy as we all chilled down from the busy day and sat in the cockpit around the table to have a fantastic dinner with some Red Wine! And even for a better treat after dinner, we all had some great Vodka offered by Frank! The skies were clear that evening and it was delightful to see so many stars scattered all over the skies and the full moon was shining bright!😊♥️💜 (Late night: At Sounion Bay, with a view of Poseidon Temple on the mountain- lit, and the full moon above shining bright!)

Day 2, June 4th, 23: Sailing to Finikas:

Great Morning waking up at Sounion bay with the magnificent view of the temple of Poseidon, and with the sweet sound of the seagulls singing good morning to us. The air was fresh and cool, and the wonderful Sun sending its warm rays of golden light🌞 We all had a very good rest last night and woke up all refreshed, full of energy and ready to get on to another great sailing day heading to a beautiful small village called: Finikas🧡 which lies on the southeast coast of Syros Island💜 Just one more cup of coffee for all crew members before getting the boat ready for another sailing day! All ready, , lifting up the anchor and maneuvering the boat on its way out of the bay into the open sea, and getting on to our next destination: Finikas!💜🧡
This day we had a strong wind and slightly high waves. The wind was blowing against our sailing direction and slowed down the boat’s speed. But it did’nt matter to us as we were enjoying the process of sailing and were in no rush to get to our destination. It was indeed a great sailing experience that day, so intense! Sailing against the strong wind and through slightly high waves is surely a great positive challenge! The high waves and strong wind practically set the boat sailing in an angle of 45 degrees to the surface of the sea! We all had to get a strong grip holding on to the metal poles of the boat.
However, despite all this, the entire crew were all brave and were not (the slightest bit) bothered or concerned by the high waves and the rocky boat.We all managed it in the perfect manner! Inez was a bit worried on that rough sailing day, but Frank cheered her up and she was alright then! She even afterwards got the courage to steer the wheel of the rocky boat that day. Becoming over her fears!
(Inez is courageously steering the wheel through the rough sea, and Frank is on her side to keep her safe!! Thank you Frank👏👏👌 Lars is on the right side enjoying today’s challenging sailing!!)

Sailing for about 8-9 hours, we arrived to Finikas💜and anchored at the marina. Well, this was certainly an exhausting day of sailing (but definitely rewarding)! We were all happy and pleased with our Skipper Nikolai that brought us all safely to Finikas after a sailing day through a rough sea! By the time we arrived at Finikas, it was already the afternoon hours. We had a bit of rest and then later on that evening we all went for a stroll around the village to find a nice Taverna to have dinner at. It was a nice cool evening and quite a lot of tourists were enjoying their evening around the village! Also lots of locals were around enjoying spending their evening at the Taverna!
We found a nice little Taverna nearby just across the sea shore. Dinner was great especially with the traditional Greek cuisine meals we ordered from the menu!  The owner of the place was super kind and she even served us with their speciality dessert ice cream on the house!😊 We were all pleased and thanked her for her exceptional warm hospitality!

Day 3, June 5th, 23: Sailing to Mykonos💜:

Wonderful morning in the pretty Village of Finikas.
I got up early this morning at 6:00 am (which very rarely happens), but the second I opened my eyes that morning I felt like going for a long morning walk to explore the Village and see more of the local’s area. I had a nice cup of coffee as I usually do when I get up in the morning and set to go and explore the village as much as i can! It is already 6:30 am, the sun is getting higher in the sky and the air is fresh with the scent of the sea! A fisherman just across the dock is also up early this morning getting on his boat to take into the sea to get a nice great portion of fish! We both greeted each other with Kalimera as to say good morning and have a lovely day! The Village is quiet and easy in the morning. What is so special and an admired quality about the Greeks is that they are never in a rush at any time of the day, even in the morning they are really taking their start of the day easy and all is relaxed, pleasant and sweet!
I took a very long distance track into the locals Village of Finikas, it was an upway hill all the way to the top peak of the mountain😊 the locals houses are built so beautifully across the mountain hill with such a high and close spectacular view to the sea. This morning I spent 2 whole hours just enjoying and observing the locals’ living area by the sea in the village. It was worth it! I am now back to the boat. Nikolai the Skipper woke up quite later than usual this morning, but he had a very good excuse as he needed more rest that night! From the nearby bakery we bought some great homemade bread and delicious french chocolate Croissants to go with the morning coffee! Today we are sailing to Mykonos! I have been waiting for this destination from day one of the sailing trip😊
Nikolai the Skipper is accurately calculating and evaluating the weather conditions today, and drawing out on the map the direction and route of sailing to destination Mykonos. Today the winds are strong and the waves are even higher. But this is how it is usually at this time of the year in the area of the Cyclades Islands. All crew members are ready for another sporty sailing day! Frank at the head of the boat lifting up the anchor, Nikolai the Skipper at the wheel maneuvering the boat from the marina out to the sea, Anky and Lars are both lifting up the bumpers and placing them stored in a designated compartment of the boat., and Inez is untying the ropes that hold the boat to the concrete dock. We are now out in the sea! and i just love these strong winds and higher waves rather than the calm sea💜 this is surely a real intense experience of sailing! It is already 7 hours of sailing through the high waves sea, and we are all exhilarated to see Mykonos at the very far distance on land! This means that in approximately one hour (more or less) we are through this excellent exhausting sailing day and finally going to get some rest, it was indeed a very tough sailing day!
Here we are, Now entering Mykonos Marina which is quite crowded and busy today.
The marina guy is directing us where to anchor our boat and also helping us tie the ropes to the concrete dock where he was standing. It was very polite of him to help and we thanked him for his assistance. He seemed slightly impatient in his behavior towards us, but we have noticed that his peculiar behavior has been same with all other crews on the boats that he guides into the marina.May be he had too many boats today to have to direct into the marina and perhaps he was fed up and in a bad mood that day!😅 We were all extremely hungry at the end of this tough sailing day and urgently needed an abundant supply of carbohydrates consumption. And what could be better than a huge serving of Italian pasta served along with Rich Red tomatoes sauce, red wine, olive oil, Feta cheese, and seasoned with pepper, garlic and salt! It was so delicious that each of the crew members had at least two servings of pasta! Nikolai the Skipper rejected the second serving claiming that he is on a diet😅 and kindly offered Frank to have his second serving!
Later in the evening we took the “Sea Bus” just by the marina into Mykonos and strolled around the beautiful alleyways where there Coffee and IceCream shops, at every corner a nice little bar and/or restaurante, lots of shops and nightlife scene. (We are enjoying the evening scenery of Mykonos strolling along the alleyways where there bars, restaurants and nightclubs around! 😊 We were looking for a nightclub named “Scandinavian”, but the alleyways at the place were somewhat confusing and for one to lose direction of way😅. It was not easy to find the “Scandinavian” club we wanted to go to, but we eventually found it after asking a nice hostess from one of the bars around, and she gave us clear directions through the alleyways to arrive to “Scandinavian”.😊 The night club was full to the maximum, and we had great drinks, the DJ had put on music we love from the 80’s and 70’s. At the nightclub there were all ages! It was obvious to notice much of the wonderful 🔥🌈LGBT 💜 community around here at the “Scandinavian” night club in Mykonos! Really great dancers here! But Nikolai is so far the best dancer of all! 😊
We had one of the best evenings here at Mykonos!

Day 4, June 6th, 23: Sailing to Ermopoli town, Cyros:

10 am here at Mykonos, and it’s a lovely sunny morning!
We are about to get on to our next destination: Cyros! The winds out in the sea are strong today, just like the other previous days, and the waves are high. The crew is ready for another fantastic and intense sailing day! It was a very long sailing day from Mykonos to Cyros, we were out in the rough sea for 8 hours and were relieved to arrive at Ermoupoli town’s port and get some rest!

(View of Ermoupoli town as we enter the port! )

— Photoshoot by Inez —
We anchored at the marina, tied to the concrete dock, and just along the dock- a beautiful vivid scenery of Restaurantes, coffee houses, very lively joyful and relaxed mood with locals and tourists around enjoying their afternoon day. Just a few meters along the dock from the spot where we anchored there we see the gorgeous statue of “Nike”- The Winged Goddess of Victory”, holding in one hand a sword as a symbol of Victory-Triumph, and the other hand holding and raising up a Wreath as a symbol of Glory & Power. It is the National Resistance Monument Statue, a magnificent work of Art by sculptor Eustathios Leontis!
In Greek mythology, “Nike” is the Goddess who represents Victory, Glory and eternity! Indeed a striking statue- her facial expression unveils such great Valor, pride and finesse! Her standing pose surly translates the qualities of power and glory!
Of course we had to take some photos with that magnificent beauty! 😊
Just across the road, directly from the Statue of “Nike” the Winged Goddess of Victory, we found an IceCream shop. We were so incredibly and positively overwhelmed with emotions after observing the striking beauty of “Nike” the Winged Goddess that we thought we may need to add to this another sweet treat and bought some great IceCream from the Greek lady at the shop! She explained to us that the ice cream is home made there at the shop. All the different flavors of ice cream from “Cheesecake” ice cream to Pistachio and/or “Cranberry Jam” ice cream. The list is endless and all tastes were fantastic! A pretty alleyway at Ermoupoli, i am on the right side enchanted by all this beauty, i love the pretty balconies decorated with “Bougainvillea” magenta pink plant💖💜💖
Late evening now and we are all very tired from a long sailing day and strolling around the great town “Ermoupoli”!

Day 5, June 7th, 23: Sailing to "Hot Spring Water" at Kithos Island:

Today we are sailing to a ‘Paradise’ bay called Hot Spring Water! It is very easy to spot these hot baths as they are right on the front line of the seashore! Eight hours sailing from Syros Island to Kithos, the sea again is rough and makes our sailing more intense for the 5th time this week. Here, just around the corner we are entering the dreamy bay of “hot spring water”. Anchoring at the bay was respectively easy at once as the sand at the bottom was fairly soft, clear and clean. The bay is wide and secluded, ‘dreamy’, there are a few boats around us distanced from our boat at a radius of about 20-25 meters. Not all boats have flags, neither did we!
Must say that it is very remarkable how the lovely Germans (anywhere in the world when they are abroad from Germany)at an instance recognize each other from a distance before even engaging in a conversation as if they have some kind of a mental connection hanging in the air! that immediately puts them at certainty that the group on the other two boats 20 meters from us are also Germans!😊 and so we greeted the other two German crews on their boats with a warm Hello! They later on came with the dinghy to our boat to say hi again and converse more! It is indeed a “Paradise” bay, so peaceful and surrounded but partially inclosed with Green mountains and a lengthy piece of soft sand seashore💜and the golden sun above. I wonder if ever this beautiful dreamy bay spot was used to shoot a love story movie scene? 😅🤣🤣
It is nearly late afternoon, and we all had a refreshing swim at the bay! It is time for a nice afternoon snack. We had some great loaf of bread left from which we bought at the bakery at Finikas, and prepared delicious sandwiches with olive oil, chunks of feta cheese, black olives, Salt & pepper! The evening was cool with a gentle breeze and clear sky, plenty of bright stars scattered all over, and the moon there in a bright yellow color looked smiling as it’s shape appeared in the form of a ‘smiley’!🌙😊she (the moon) seemed so pleased of the bright evening and felt cosy to be surrounded by so many glowing silver stars! Nikolai the Skipper/DJ put on some awesome music for us to listen to when we were chilling out on this bright evening at “Hot Springs Bay” with a bottle of chilled white wine!
It is Uncle Waffles’ music! Such a bright African DJ, she is most talented, and the music she produces is one that touches the soul in a gentle and deep maner! The rhythm and beat of the tune sounds in her track are perfect and harmonious! She is indeed a master in her creation of excellent music! Later in the evening Frank took us with the dinghy to the shore where the warm baths are. The warm salty water in the “spring water bath” was a real treat and mostly relaxing especially with the breeze of the cool wind that night! Inez said that the spring bath water is a source of healing water as it contains super pure minerals derived from the inner crust of the earth!!
(Mattias, Frank enjoying a lovely evening at “hot spring bath”!!)

Day 6, June 8th, 2023 Sailing to Kea Island:
A natural early morning rise for me today at “spring water bay”, it is 6 am! I just love the quiet early hours of the beginning morning, just when the sun is showing up in her first moments and starting to send her warm rays while still the air is cool and fresh. This is a great moment of having a combination (all at once) of feeling cool breeze and sun sending warm rays!
This morning I decided to take a very long hike around the “spring water bay” area. There at the mountain spotting 5 sweet goats, one white, one black and the other three were mix colors of white and light caramel brown!😊- the goats seemed happy as they were enjoying their morning chewing of the morning fresh green grass and green bush leaves that were in abundance on the mountain!
I asked Nikolai the Skipper to join me for a nice long hike, and so we took the dinghy to transfer to seashore. We walked a long distance around the bay to reach the other mountain just across, all the way up to the peak! The uphill effort was worth it! as the view of the sea from the peak was incredible!
(Panoramic view of the bay “hot spring water”, spotting in the far distance two sailing boats on their way into the bay!)
On the way down and back from the mountain we came across (for the second time!) With the sweet goats, they must like us very much!😊🤣After a 2 hour morning hike we got back to the boat with a great appetite for breakfast with Greek salad, eggs&mushrooms omelet, whole wheat bread and coffee/tea! We spent the whole morning at the bay of spring water, and only at midnoon hours headed for our next destination: Kea! Kea is actually very close by to where we are at spring bay, and it is only about 2 hours sailing from here to there.
Just before we were about to start our sailing to Kea today, there, we noticed a boat entering the bay and it looks that one of their sails is damaged and the two guys on that boat did not manage on their own to set down the damaged sail. Since we were closest to them at the bay, Frank & Lars took the dinghy to reach the boat of the two guys to help them set down the damaged sail and fold it neatly stored down the boat. While all this operation activity was rough since the wind was strong and making it very difficult to hold down the sail it was finalized in success!😅 But then, one of the sail’s handle that was disattached from its place, flew off into the sea, then Anky bravefully swam a long distance to fetch the handle that flew into the sea, and Bravo! Anky successfully found the sail’s handle that was almost lost in the sea, and swam to the other boat of the 2 guys to put the handle back in place! The 2 guys on the boat were impressed by Anky’s help and thanked her, Frank & Lars for their aid in this tough operation!!
All crew is safely back on board! We are now off to Kea. The winds are strong and high waves, but sailing today to Kea is only two hours, then we can rest again! It is now midnoon time and we are nearing the south part of Kea Island, getting closer to the point where shifting the sails for the sharp turn left route into the direction of “Poles Bay”. The wind was very strong there and shifting the sails was not an easy task. We did it! Here, we are now entering “Poles Bay” at Kea island, and now shielded from the strong wind! We notice there are only two other boats in the bay, it is very secluded, peaceful and quiet here! One boat is French (as we see by their flag), and the other boat with an american flag.
We have anchored successfully at “Poles Bay”!
Now we are all relaxed, it is time to rest again!🤣 Frank is bringing up to Deck the bottle of Gin that was left from the beginning of our sailing trip and prepared for us all drinks to celebrate our last day (before tomorrow) of the sailing week here at the Cyclades Islands! and how not also with a refreshing dive and swim in the bay! 😊 From the boat at the bay, a close view of the “Doric Temple of the Pythian Apollo” which is located at the first line of the shore at the bay. Also spotting a nice little church with a rounded roof colored in light blue shade (as the color of a clear blue sky) and decorated at its peak with a cross! Such a beautiful and interesting place!
Could’nt resist at an instance to get to shore and explore the bay area. Eager to see the magnificent Temple of Apollo, and the Church at the bay’s land. Here we are, Nikolai the Skipper and I at shore strolling around and checking out this amazing place! Climbing up the built stairs to walk up to Apollo’s Temple, I love this Marble stone at Apollo’s temple, it is indeed a must to walk bare feet on this raw marble stone as it gives such a cool sense as if at once feeling walking on surface, but the marble stone is giving a sense as if feet are not touching ground and are floating on the surface of the marble!😅 The poles which are also made from marble are so artistically shaped and refined! The Ancient Greeks surely invented the most beautiful Architecture of all times! The nice little Church is located just below, nearby Apollo’s Temple, and there is a constructed stairway built wideways leading to the Church!
Going down the staircase structure and reaching the shore, I am naturally and instantly attracted and drawn to a beautiful shaded track path which is quite narrow and both sides of the track path are lined with tall trees long branches that shade the path and allows through bits of sun rays to add a beautiful scene of light & shade combination when walking through the track path! I am eager and curious to find out where this long track is going to lead to!
I am already covering a distance of half km through the track path and with great pleasure continuing to stream along the uphill path, accompanied by the vivid sounds of the sea waves and soft wind brushing through the leaves of the tall trees, and pretty sweet birds tweeting and whistling Oh, and also there is an old Donkey on the left side of the path, he was surprised to see me, but said gently Hello!. Streaming uphill the path deeper into land, the path’s ground is becoming more rocky and there natural formation of stairway rocks to climb up the path, I hear further up the path a refreshing water streaming down, and a few meters up as I proceed further I see sparkling fresh river crossing the path. There are also a few lovely goats from the herd at the streaming river drinking up to keep hydrated on this hot day! Such a beautiful nature scenery here along this track path!
I continue my way on the path, eager to see more of the beautiful area😊 I look at the time and I see it has been almost two hours of hiking here up this gorgeous mountain! Proceeding on up the mountain path I turn and take a look to see in far distance the view of spectacular blue sea sparkling with the sun rays shining on it! Looking ahead– the path then is connecting to a narrow concrete road. Up the road there is a Nice Old House on the left of the road! At the old house’s garden yard there chickens (so many of them)🤣 and further up the road on the left, also about five horses, they were very calm and sweet, they were drinking lots of water to keep hydrated on this hot day!
It is already two hours by now hiking up the mountain, and I see the concrete side road is (in further view) connecting to the main road! It looks like I am now here at a Village named “Chavoun”! Such a Pretty place, I see just across the main road a very large agriculture land area of Golden green Olive trees. I needed to rest my legs and stretch them a bit after such an intensive uphill hiking for two straight hours, and so I was happy to sit under the olive tree that gave all shade! had a cigarette break! Well, it looks now that the sun is going to set down soon, I figured I better get on the Move down mountain and back to the Bay, while still light during sunset hours!
On the way back from the Village to the Bay, I encountered again the Lovely goats that also were making their way back to their place, before the sun was setting down, as they herd through the mountains, the bells on them ring with their movement and make lovely music sound! I am nearing the bay, hearing the waves of the sea, this means that I am almost out of the track path and out at the bay, streaming down as quickly as possible to reach the sea shore while still light!
Here, i’m at the bay on the seashore, the wind in the late evening becoming stronger and coming from the direction of the sea to the shore. Dear Nikolai the Skipper came with the dinghy to fetch me from shore back to the boat! Ohh, it was so nice to be back to the boat with all our Joyful crew!! Had dinner, and so exhausted! went to sleep early tonight!

Day 7, June 9th, 2023: Sailing back to Alimos Marina in Athens:

Early morning at “Poles Bay” on Kea Island. The winds were strong last night, but at the bay we were sheltered and the small waves Rocked the boat gently, it felt like sleeping in a baby’s cradle swing!🤣 The sun is just behind the mountain radiating its glowing morning light over the clear blue sky, she is elevating up and now fully appearing over the mountain! There is a small fishing boat at the bay, (close to our boat) to the left. and on the right to us over the small island at the bay are a bunch of about twenty or more cheerful seagulls delivering their call as they are delighted to notice the beautiful sun rising up from behind the mountain, and The fishing boat is making its move out to the sea to get some great portion of fish! So do the seagulls are eager to find some tasty fish at the bay for breakfast this morning!😊

It is hard to believe that today is the last sailing day of the sailing week here at the Magnificent Cyclades Islands! Through the week, visiting and seeing so many Islands, gorgeous bays, pretty villages and lovely ports! So many impressions of Beauty, Nature, Culture, Arts, and so, the Sailing Experience, sense of Freedom, Challenges– make one to want it never end, and have it as like for every single day of life! As this is the ultimate essence of life – the sense of freedom, the sense of new striking impressions, the close connection to Nature, and the observation of Arts in all matters!

Nikolai the Skipper has woken up early this morning, how unusual!🤣 perhaps it’s because we all went to sleep early last night. Breakfast is ready and all crew are getting on the move to sail back to Alimos Marina. The wind is softer today and turned into a pleasant breeze. The sea is calm and very small waves every now and again! It was a very long sailing day, as we arrived at Alimos Marina in Athens in the late afternoon hours- just before sunset.

In the evening we all went out to the Marina’s bar: “Dia Noche” to have drinks and celebrate our wonderful and successfully accomplished sailing week at the Cyclade Islands!
